What is being bought

Published requirement description

Nottingham Trent University (NTU) invites tenders from suitably qualified and experienced suppliers for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a 1.5T relocatable MRI system. This will allow us to support a wide range of teaching activities as well as academic and commercial research projects with a strong focus on adaptability and multiple use.

The modular unit will be located at NTU’s Clifton Campus and will be used for multidisciplinary projects in physics, psychology, food science and engineering, materials and many more.

Project Objectives

The primary objectives of this procurement are to:

•Establish an up to date, wide bore (60cm) MRI facility at Nottingham Trent university suitable for use for human imaging, non-human imaging (e.g. materials and foods) with options for expanding into large animal studies in the future.

•Provide a “hospital equivalent” installation to facilitate real world learning experience for students.

•Enable full control over imaging sequences and parameters for non-human studies.

•Establish a robust, low-maintenance, and future-proof research infrastructure capable of supporting sustained academic research, postgraduate training, and long-term operation.

•Enable access and service provision to users from across all schools of the university, as well as external UK academic users, SMEs, and industrial partners.

•Foster strategic collaboration with the successful supplier, including support for UK industry engagement, knowledge exchange as well as student and staff research activities.

The successful contractor will be responsible for the complete delivery, installation and commissioning of a modular relocatable MRI system including provision of all necessary information to meet building planning requirements.

What this means for your bid
  • Price carries 30 of 100 points: a 10% discount moves about 3 points. The method statement decides this lot, not the discount.
  • Turnover usually expected at this size: about £1,163,478 (twice the annual value).

Price arithmetic assumes straight proportional scoring; the tender pack may use another formula. Turnover is an indicative market norm (≈2× annual value), not a published condition.

What to do with it
How often do SMEs win?
i

How often small and medium firms win.

Share of awards where the winner’s size is known.

The counts under this question show how many awards have a known supplier size.

Small firms have won here. Neither number says whether you qualify; it describes who has been winning.

How often do local suppliers win?
i

How often local firms win similar work.

Winners with a registered address in the delivery region, out of awards with a known address.

Here, local means registered in East Midlands.

A local branch does not count if the registered address is elsewhere.

Most of this buyer’s recorded winners are registered outside East Midlands.

How long to a decision?

How long buyers here take to decide after bids close.

Middle value in days from the deadline to the first award notice, on competitions that published both dates.

Only decided tenders count, so slow ones still waiting are not in.

How often single-bid or direct?
i

How often work is awarded with no recorded rival.

Direct awards and tenders where every published lot count shows one bid.

Both shares are minimums: some awards have no bid count.

Thin markets produce this too; it is not proof of a tailored specification.

About this data
  • Source. Official UK public procurement notices (Find a Tender), reused under the Open Government Licence v3.0. New notices arrive through the day; the figures are rebuilt nightly.
  • Two views, kept apart. The authority’s own track record and the wider market for the same kind of work sit side by side and are never mixed. Where the local picture is too thin, a figure widens to a broader market and says which one it used.
  • Forecasts are labelled. The price forecast and its range, possible competitors and the earlier-work matches are our estimates from past awards: not published facts, not win chances and not price advice. Official notices do not say who is bidding.
  • Every figure shows what it rests on. Not every notice publishes a bid count, a value or a delivery region, so each figure carries the number of records behind it, and one built on few records is marked as such. The on a figure explains it; the counting rules are in the methodology. Spotted something wrong? Tell us.
