The purposes of the service specification was to equip providers with the necessary background knowledge and service details to effectively bid for and successful at tender, deliver and performance manage the provision of free play opportunities on behalf of Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council branded as Go Play Sandwell Programme OverviewThe basis of the Council’s Vision 2030, best start in life, is that the earlier help can be provided for children and families the earlier they can thrive and enjoy success. This funding supports this vision with particular emphasis on:• Ensuring that our universal services, which all families can access to help build resilience and develop skills, are available to them to help meet the needs of their children.• Encouraging and enabling families to help themselves through the provision of effective information and developing the capability of communities, to support families without the need for intervention. • Wherever possible, our services will work in smaller neighbourhood localities to build networks of support• Engaging with children and families, using their views to shape the programme• Providing a rigorous approach to the quality and impact of services funded (which is continuously monitored) and using funding in the best possible way.SMBC recognises that play has a valuable role to play in increasing children’s confidence, self-esteem and social interactions. Reducing segregation within communities and contributing to the development of social capital, by providing communities with a focus for informal networks of family support.
