Coverage: 11 active published awards; 4 bid reports (which may be per lot). Supplier values exclude multi-supplier awards, frameworks and DPS, and use GBP only. They are published award values, not payments. Published-to-award variance compares single-lot, single-award, single-supplier GBP procedures with explicitly non-framework/non-DPS status; increases remain in the average. Unpublished data stays unknown. Awarded suppliers are winners, not all bidders.

A highest performance new 4-circle kappa X-ray area detector diffractometer system is required for the structural characterization of a range of supramolecular, metal organic framework and related materials in the School of Chemistry, University of Birmingham. The instrument offered must provide the flexibility necessary to address the wide range of studies which are envisaged. The materials to be studied will include some which are extremely unstable (air and moisture sensitive, for instance) and others which form only extremely small and / or otherwise very weakly diffracting crystals. Other materials may be larger crystals and / or strongly absorbing. Accordingly, the brightness of the X-ray sources and the sensitivity, dynamic range and signal:noise characteristics of the X-ray area detector and the availability of a range of flexible and powerful tools in the data collection and data analysis software are key factors of consideration.
