Until March 2022, North East London (NEL) Cancer Alliance had access to a cancer facilitator service which supported GP practices across London to make quality improvements. This work programme was discontinued due to lack of funding as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic; however, it was a valuable resource to support practices. It will be available in all of North East London and will provide facilitators to work with primary care networks. The cancer facilitator service will be responsible for supporting, educating and influencing primary care teams, health professionals and local health systems to improve cancer services in line with NEL Cancer Alliance’s programmes of work and strategy. The service will support the NHS Long Term Plan and the cancer elements of the Primary Care Network Direct Enhanced Service (PCN DES) requirements. The service aims to: • Support PCNs to increase uptake of screening services • Reduce health inequalities in early diagnosis of cancer • Improve referral practices for two week wait cancer referrals • Support quality improvements Please refer to the service specification document for further information on the service.
