What is being bought
Peel Ports owns and operates six of the UK’s most important ports (Port of Liverpool, Heysham Port, Manchester Ship Canal, Medway (Sheerness / Chatham), Clyde port (Greenock, Hunterston, Ardrossan) and Great Yarmouth). It also operates a container terminal in Dublin. Port of Sheerness Limited is conducting pre-market engagement to understand the commercial position and capability of the supply base for the service provision of taxi’s to transfer marine pilots across the Medway port, in preparation for a future procurement. A summary of the requirements are detailed below: Scope of Supplier service The future tender process will seek a comprehensive taxi service solution for pilot transfers at the Port of Sheerness, which may include but not be limited to: • 24/7 Availability: Provision of services 365 days a year, including unsociable hours, to meet the demands of vessel arrivals and departures. • Geographic Coverage: Services primarily focused on the Port of Sheerness and its immediate surroundings, including designated pilot boarding/landing locations and potentially local pilot accommodation. • Vehicle Fleet: A fleet of well-maintained, licensed, and appropriate vehicles suitable for transporting individuals and potentially small amounts of pilot equipment safely and comfortably. Consideration may be given to requirements for vehicle types (e.g., saloon cars, multi-passenger vehicles). • Professional Drivers: Experienced, licensed, and vetted drivers with excellent local knowledge, strong communication skills, and a commitment to punctuality, reliability, and safety. Drivers may be required to undergo specific port-related inductions or training. • Efficient Dispatch and Communication: Robust and reliable booking, dispatch, and communication systems to effectively manage service requests, track journeys, and communicate with port personnel and pilots. This may include the use of technology-based solutions. • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Provision of regular performance data, including journey times, response times, service usage, and key performance indicators (KPIs) as defined by Peel Ports Group.
