The requirement is for 3D printed medical grade implants, often for cancer or trauma patients, with a significant time pressure and importance of speedy turn around of products. At present, the designs are submitted by Cardiff and Vale's dental laboratory and implants are produced and delivered to meet specific patient circumstances. The health board's long-term plan is to gain relevant funding to bring the service in-house and potentially provide the service across all of Wales.
