Coverage: 32 active published awards; 32 bid reports (which may be per lot). Supplier values exclude multi-supplier awards, frameworks and DPS, and use GBP only. They are published award values, not payments. Published-to-award variance compares single-lot, single-award, single-supplier GBP procedures with explicitly non-framework/non-DPS status; increases remain in the average. Unpublished data stays unknown. Awarded suppliers are winners, not all bidders.

Procedure rationaleThere is currently a shortage of Consultant Ophthalmologist in Wales, with further challenges in recruiting and retaining new trainee Consultant Ophthalmologists. The scale of this shortage was recently highlighted in an external report which showed that there are currently 1.8 Ophthalmology Consultant per 100,000 population which is the lowest in the UK. The Royal College of Ophthalmologists recommends that there should be 3 to 3.5 Consultant Ophthalmologists per 100,000 population. |
