A post mortem examination may be undertaken to determine the cause of death.Norfolk County Council has responsibility for the administration of this Contract on behalf of Her Majesty’s Coroner for Norfolk. However, instructions to undertake a post mortem examination will be given by the Coroner.Coroners instruct pathologists to make an examination under section 14 of the Coroners and Justice Act 2009. The Pathologist should set out in a written report full details of his/her examination and give an opinion as to the cause of death. The report itself may be used by the coroner as evidence at the inquest and it may, in some circumstances, be necessary for the pathologist to attend the Inquest to give evidence as to their findings.
