The provider has demonstrated a strong commitment to service improvement and innovation, including support for alternative pathways to Emergency Departments, enhanced public awareness of community pharmacy services, and collaborative development of initial assessment models and sub-six-month pathways. The existing arrangement continues to deliver a strong balance of value and patient benefit, with an uncapped attendance model protecting the Trust from significant marginal costs associated with increased activity.
The service has operated successfully and consistently since 2021 at the Bedford site and since 2013 at the Luton & Dunstable site. A collaborative partnership approach, supported through shared learning forums, has driven ongoing improvements to streaming protocols and transfers of care, helping to ensure a seamless patient experience.
The provider continues to promote direct booking pathways and appropriate signposting to improve access while maintaining the principle of open access. This is complemented by initiatives that encourage frequent users to access primary care and Pharmacy First services, supporting continuity of care.
The provider also continues to strengthen collaboration with NHS, social care and voluntary sector partners. Delivery of a single point of access, increased use of virtual consultations, and avoidance of unnecessary redirection between services support both patient experience and wider sustainability objectives. Staff volunteering initiatives further demonstrate the provider's commitment to local communities.
