Vans are used for the transportation of Blood Components from the central hub locations to hospitals and blood banks around the country as required for the service. Each van is required to have two separate compartments, with one for transport non-temperature controlled items (Ambient compartment), and the other compartment to be refrigerated for the transport of temperature controlled Blood Components (Refrigerated compartment). Transportation of Blood Components is completed in accordance with NATS TRAN 020. The refrigerated compartment must maintain the surface temperature of units of Blood Components 2°C to 10°C during transportation. Temperature monitoring (with alarms for out of specified limits) of the refrigerated compartment during transportation is required.
