As ‘relevant authority’ Cumberland Council has the statutory responsibility to provide appropriate, timely and robust arrangements for the collection and/or transportation of a deceased person when the death needs to be referred to HM Coroner for investigation if the death occurred within the Cumbria Coroners area. The Contract Term and Value are given for the maximum period of 6 years. This is based on 3-years plus an optional extension of 2-years and a final extension of 12 months.

Lot 1: North Cumbria Carlisle and the surrounding area, with boundaries are coterminous with what was the old ‘Carlisle City Council’ area. The area approximately covers to the Scottish border to the North, and to the Northumberland border to the east. West to the Solway estuary and the village of Kirkbampton, and south to Dalston / Sebergham. (Designated mortuary – CIC, Carlisle). Included are the potential transfer / collection of cases between CIC in Carlisle, WCH in Whitehaven and RLI in Lancaster, or other hospitals as required by HM Coroner.
