The majority of the requirement covers regular home to school transport for pupils and
students attending primary and secondary educational establishments both within and
outside the Council’s area. This includes a significant provision for children and young
adults with a range of additional support needs and disabilities. In addition to this core
requirement, the DPS will be used to meet requirements in respect of adult social care –
attending regular day care, periodic access to respite care and similar activities – as well
as transport required by educational or other establishments providing access to off-site
activities such as swimming lessons or museum visits. Finally, the DPS may be used to
commission transport services required for more general community support purposes.
