Published requirement descriptionThe Velipod is a specialist; containerised blood manufacturing facility designed specifically for the production of dried plasma. The system provides a complete end-to-end manufacturing capability, comprising of two containerised clinical environments, a dedicated clean dry air system, plasma dryers, a sealer, associated bench equipment and consumable kits. All components have been designed, tested and validated to operate as an integrated solution.

The Authority has concluded that, due to an absence of competition for technical reasons, only Velico Medical can provide the required integrated dried plasma manufacturing capability and there are no reasonable alternatives available. A direct award therefore represents the most effective, proportionate and lowest risk means of meeting the operational requirement whilst supporting the timely development of a sovereign MOD dried plasma production capability.
