People with moderate to severe learning disabilities often require support with health and social care needs.\n• Learning disabilities are described as ‘a reduced intellectual ability and difficulty with everyday tasks, which affects someone for their whole life’. Around 2% of the population have a learning disability.\n• People with learning disabilities have higher health needs with complex health conditions including respiratory, neurological, neurodevelopmental, reduced mobility, cardiovascular, epilepsy, diabetes and mental ill health.\n• Some people with learning disabilities can have behaviours that challenge and overlap with autism.\nLondon Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) is seeking to commission a healthy lifestyle programme that achieves optimum health outcomes (weight loss, dietary change) through face to face and/or remote interventions for our local residents with a global learning disability who are registered with Tower Hamlets GPs.\nThe successful provider will enter into contract with Tower Hamlets utilising their standard T&Cs (included in tender pack) for a four-year single-supplier framework, with the anticipation of annual call-offs being awarded in line with budget allowance.\nTower Hamlets are following the Open procurement procedure in accordance with the Public Contracts Register 2015.",

This is the core definition of disability in the Equality Act 2010. This can include brain or spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, respiratory disorders, epilepsy, hearing, and visual impairments and more.\n• People with a physical disability are twice as likely to be inactive as those without a disability and evidence shows a relationship between engaging in physical activity and positive health outcomes for disabled adults. There is also evidence that people with physical disabilities are at greater risk of coronary heart disease and diabetes mellitus. Moreover, obesity increases the burden of disabilities and the number of secondary conditions.
