The service will provide a clinically safe, responsive and person-centred wheelchair service for eligible adults and children, supporting independence, mobility, posture and participation in daily life. The service is expected to include assessment, clinical review, prescription, provision, delivery, fitting, adjustment, repair, maintenance, collection and replacement of wheelchairs and associated equipment, together with onward referral or signposting where appropriate. The ICB is seeking a provider model that delivers equitable access across the three boroughs, improves service user and carer experience, and reduces unwarranted variation in waiting times, communication and outcomes. The future service is intended to respond to feedback from service users, carers and stakeholders, including the importance of timely assessments, prompt equipment provision, effective repairs and maintenance, clear communication, and continuity of support. The contract is expected to support closer integration with wider community, health, education and social care pathways, including services supporting children and young people, people with long-term conditions, and those with complex postural and mobility needs. The contract is also expected to promote value for money, service sustainability and continuous improvement, while addressing health inequalities and ensuring reasonable adjustments for those who need them.
