In some schemes, the housing provider and the care provider are separate organisations, while in others, the housing provider also delivers the onsite care. An Extra Care Scheme is designed for individuals, typically aged 55 and over, and it combines independent living with access to 24/7 support and care services. It provides self-contained accommodation and offers additional services such as personal care and domestic assistance tailored to the individual’s needs.
